the name Emma became popular due to Jane Austen's book, Emma, NOT because of Friends. Really, try to expand your horizons.
It became popular in the early aughts due to Friends Get over yourself ,love. It's laughable you think Jane Austen is peak sophistication.
Hardly. It's just been around for well, centuries. As has the name. Maybe you're just a moron and you don't read books.
Oh FFS. Yes, the name Emma has been around for centuries, but it's well documented that Rachel Green naming her baby Emma on Friends sparked its recent extreme popularity. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/friends-baby-names-influence_l_60af115fe4b0d45b7532609a "The episode aired in May 2002, and while we can’t say definitively how much it affected parents’ choices, it more than likely boosted Emma’s appeal. In 2001, the name ranked No. 13 on the SSA’s popularity list, but in 2002 it jumped up to the fourth most popular name for girls. In 2003, Emma was No. 2, and it’s been in the top three every year since."
Not pp but it was already on a steep upward trajectory. I think a lot of these examples are backwards and the pop culture name came from a rising popularity name. Often names are cyclical and the grandparents' and great grandparents' generations name start to feel fresh to the procreating generation.
+1 although there are exceptions (Splash -Madison, Love Story-Jennifer) https://engaging-data.com/baby-name-visualizer/?n=madison&sex=f&data=r most of these are the shows/movies following the existing trends. I already knew a couple baby Emmas when the Friends baby was named. It had already had strong growth in popularity https://engaging-data.com/baby-name-visualizer/?n=emma&sex=f&data=n
You knowing a couple of people with the name prior doesn't change the fact that the name became widely popular due to Friends. Why do some of you have to be so insufferable?
