Seriously. She sounds like a parent who thinks the world revolves  around her child. Since her child needs a phone call then every college child today needs a phone call.

College students are in a way too connected. I went to college 8hours a way from home and calls were infrequent. At most once a week but it was long distance so sometimes  it was once a month. Now with cell phones parents are constantly texting. [/quote]

Frankly, it’s my job as a parent to put my kids first. My life does revolve around them, and I’m very proud of that. I think it’s a high compliment. 
I’m sorry you had a distant relationship with your family, and I understand it’s hard to watch and compare. I know you will find friends who can support you. Don’t begrudge people who have a healthy family relationship.
