I'm afraid to get rid of my 6 year old iphone because it has my daughter's newborn videos (and all the other photos from the last 6 years) and I don't know how to store them, protect them. Sigh. Wish there was some in-person, one hour class I could attend to tell me the essentials.
For an iPhone, go to any Apple Store. Their customer service agents are fantastic and will show you how to do any of this. They’ll usually take the time to walk you through it with them, too. This goes for anything you need - a new app, OS update, configuration help, etc. And I’ve _never_ had them try to sell me an upgrade at all! They really are there for you, not for sales. You might want to call them and see if you can walk in or need to schedule a time - I’m not sure how busy they are leading up to Christmas.
