Not ridiculous. Your other options are OOS at publics like UCLA (76k+) and Berkekey at ($78+). Privates like USC are over $90k a year.  Don't like it? Go to the community college and take advantage of the guaranteed transfer program.

UVA already is discounting in-state costs (engineering is an expensive program!). College is a luxury, it is not a promise to your kid. Have them work for a gap year if need be.

But stop haranguing in this point. Clearly you have a sour grapes issue with UVA engineering because you keep raising this bizarre fact.

And for non-engineering types (the vast majority), UVA's COA for its most popular College of Arts & Sciences, all in, is only $40k ... still an extraordinary benefit when compared to OOS and private tuitions[/quote]

Your comment is really condescending and unwarranted. You don't know me or my kid. UVA could be a reach or a safety school for my kid. I could afford a full price tag of USC or I need a 100% financial assistance even for a community college. You don't get to lecture me how I, or other DCUMers, plan for kid's college.

I am just stating a fact that the In-state cost (tuition+ all others) of UVA is WAY higher than the In-state cost of other flagship state universities. There is no point to compare it to the OOS of other universities. Even so, you will find it is actually very close to the OOS costs of Georgia Tech or NCSU. For a public university, the In-state cost should be more affordable for the state taxpayers.
