Though your Laura should legally change her name to Lara and then everyone would pronounce it the way she wants.[/quote] Most of the people I know with the name Lara pronounce it with a short a sound, as in apple. So they pronounce it the same way most Americans pronounce names like Tara, Cara, Farah, Sara. The PP’s friend would just be trading one pronunciation problem for another if she changed her spelling to Lara. (I have a friend who spells and pronounces her name the same as PP’s friend. She doesn’t really like the loor-a mispronunciation, but she generally ignores it. Her good friends all say it correctly, and that’s all that matters.) [/quote]
