I would love for parents to really start questioning DCPS as to what is the point of this test.  If it’s to inform parents of how good a school is then the data needs to be available in the early summer/end of school year.  If it’s to inform parents and teachers of individual student strengths  and weaknesses so they can be supported then they need to get them at the beginning of the school year.  It’s honestly a really stupid test with very little meaning to help support students.  Just use one of the twenty other tests you make kids take the measure growth (iReady, MAP, reading inventory, etc.)[/quote]

The problem isn't the test. The problem is schools dragging their feet when it comes to giving us the results. I am all in favor of standardized tests. Schools here, generally speaking, are bad. Even the good schools are not very good. We need standardized tests to keep these schools honest and so we can see how kids are doing compared to kids in other states. Children also need to learn to take standardized tests. It's a skill, and they need to practice it. [/quote]
