My daughter is a senior. Her most expensive homecoming dress was $40. It’s not like prom at our HS - MCPS. She’s gotten her dresses on SHEIN, Temu and at a shop at the beach. We haven’t started talking about it yet this year, but I’m not spending anywhere close to $130. I actually expect she’ll recycle one that she’s already worn.
Watch a document or read up on Temu and SHEIN. No one should be shopping there.
If you shop on a homecoming dress site there is no guarantee they are not marked up SHEIN factory crap.
Those SHEIN dresses aren’t really recyclable because they’ll be torn and out of shape quickly and the manmade fibers end up in the ocean. You don’t need to shop on sites marketed towards homecoming. If it’s $60 it probably is from one of the Chinese companies. Some who have ethically made or sustainable clothes are Reformation, Stella McCartney, Mara Hoffman, Bloomingdale’s has some brands. There’s a lot more. Most of these type of brands have more tailored dresses with natural material, less skin tight than the typical cheap prom dress but worth it and you can wear it again because it’s not a prom / homecoming dress.
Most parents cannot even buy themselves the brands you mentioned.
