Seriously every other thread is about this sport. Is it that popular?
I wondered the same thing. I didn’t realize this was a serious sport now. The girls volleyball team at my school lived on a diet of Fresca, wine coolers, and Marlboro Lights. During the season, they cut back on the Fresca. One of them went on to play D1.
I only knew one volleyball player in high school. She dropped out of college and got a boob job. They might want to stop wearing those hideous 70s bikinis in beach volleyball if they want to be taken seriously. They are not flattering. Serious female athletes like basketball, hockey and softball players wear appropriate uniforms for their sport.
I’m pretty sure the beach volleyball players don’t care what you think about what they wear. And unless I’m missing something, this thread was primarily about indoor volleyball, which is the girls sport with the most HS participants. More than basketball, hockey, softball, or soccer. I’m guessing someone who is more concerned with what they wear to play a sport hasn’t actually watched any high level volleyball be played. They are 100% as impressive as any of the “serious” sports you mentioned. Just because you played in high school PE doesn’t make you an expert.
It’s hard for people to take it seriously with the girls dressed that way. The indoor ones have what looks like underwear on. They make the cheerleaders look like nuns. I don’t doubt that so many girls want to play. Hockey is one of the toughest sports to play and I admire the girls who play. Basketball is tough too. It’s a high skill level. Softball is impressive. I don’t see volleyball at that level. We’ve all played volleyball for fun or in gym and playing for fun is not even close to being as skilled as a college team that trained for years to be that good. But I think a lot of girls see it as a cute girly thing to do and then find out there’s no room for them on the court.
