I grew up in HoCo and we had a special Saturday class for some kids to take compacted algebra 1/geom/algebra 2 in 7th and 8th grade. Regular day math class was used for homework. Took calculus in 10th. A bunch of us are math PhDs now. For the right kid it’s a godsend. As a girl, I might not have selected myself for it, but it was a good fit. This should be more common! One of my kids would probably be right for this, the other probably not. Does MoCo have anything like that?
SMACs magnet at Blair and Poolesville gets kids to this path (and provides the classes after Calculus).
Not quite, in practice.. They expect accelerated kids to have already done Algebra 2 like PP did in middle school (either privately, or in WPMS, or by special arrangement with a local high school). Students who try this without preparing in advance generally don't pass the qualifying camp.
