Why didn't they just give families full days off?
I was told by my principal that that option was discussed quite a bit, but was eliminated because parents already complain about not having five day weeks on the calendar and there weren’t enough resources to spread out across the pyramids.
This- let's be real whatever they do people will have a problem with.
I keep hearing this, but parents in Arlington and Loudoun were allowed to weigh in on the decision— and aren’t having a problem.
I'm in Loudoun and have talked to dozens of parents about the days off. Most are very, very happy for the full days off. I particularly liked October 30, 31, November 1-3 and November 5 off. I'd love to see a count of how many kids will be in school on November 4!! I think most people asked for longer, consecutive breaks. Early release Mondays wouldn't have worked for me. The school won't release my kids without a parent present and I wouldn't be able to get to school at that time due to my work. I would take my kids to my parents house instead for the entire day and they'd miss the half day.
