They’re not allowed to run around the playground area because they’re very likely to run INTO another child. They can run around the grassy/field areas. A lot of students play soccer or football and those are as well[/quote]

I am from Illinois.   We had PE every year, 5 days a week.  I signed up to the PE where it was guaranteed never to go inside.  And yes, it had the politically incorrect name of Eskimo PE.  Dodgeball is mild compared to the games we played.  We played street hockey on the icy parking lot, and put metal rods in the plastic sticks and boiled the blades in my mother's Dutch Oven to put a wicked curve on the sticks.  Heck, a future NHL defensemen was in our class and a sheer terror.  Had to give ourselves a chance.  Because of the snow, flag football became tackle.  It was great fun and made me excited to come to school.  I was at the top of the class so academics wasn't incompatible with this wild class. My single mother supported this as she though it a great outlet for her boys.  And we were high school All Americans in our sport.  Our PE teacher was the head basketball coach, and he had a great parka so he could watch us in a snowstorm.  I can see why today given the liabilities schools can't do this any longer, but it truly is the case times were different.  And yes, playing speedball in the snow to the point of exhaustion didn't make for too many obese kids.  [/quote]

NP.  I don't know about dodgeball (or ice hockey or tackle football) but I think it's absurd that our kids cannot have PE every day in elementary school, along with music class, the way we did as kids.  The schedule is so messed up, ineffective and counter productive.[/quote]
