People are being too harsh here. If you move to a new place, it can take a while to adapt your clothing style to not be too alien to your new environment, while still be comfortable within your long standing style zone. For many people, something like this happens at college or at your first job in a new city. Perhaps OP hasn't had to do this before and is struggling at adaptation for the first time.
NP. Agree, but there is a way to express that struggle without making nasty comments about the new style. The premise of OP's post (the title, really) was that she dresses nicely, or correctly, while everyone else looks like crap. I actually think if she had worded her struggle different, people would have been on her side. Something like "I really like the clothes I have, but am now realizing they are too formal for the social events I am attending. I'm wearing more tailored t-shirts and shorts, but the other women are in cut offs and men's sized t-shirts. I like how I dress, though. What should I do?" Instead, she just talked about how horrible and unfashionable everyone else looked. It's understandable that responders were put off by her tone. And weird that she feels attacked by it. If anyone was too harsh, it was her. I just finished a visit to my hometown in OH. I was leaving to meet an old friend and realized I looked silly. I was "dressed up", because I was excited to go out, but realized my friend was coming from errands and bringing her daughter and this was not a fancy mom wine meet up. I quickly changed into something more casual that I still enjoy wearing (t-shirt, jean skirt, slip on sandals) and it was perfect. When in Rome, you know?
