[/quote] That's BS. The essay is not just about what you do, but also about why you continue doing what you do and how it defines you as a person. Talk about what you learned from it and how it connects with what you want to do in life. For example, if your kid has played baseball for 9 years and wants to become a data scientist. Talk about your love for the game, why do you love it (team spirit, friendship, leadership, etc.) and what you learned from it. Talk about how playing hte game got you interested in baseball stats and your AP stats and calc classes made you realise you could be the guy behind the stats, hence your desire to study data science in college.
