In light of its ranking, why is Tufts: - Usually lumped together with Wash U, Vanderbilt, Emery, Rice, etc.? - such a competitive admit — comparable to those other schools?
Tufts is fine though is NOT lumped with those. In our public magnet/gov school, Tufts takes kids that UVA waitlists or rejects in-state. UVA in state takes from the top 30-40%. The other schools you list, Vandy/Emory/WashU all admit from the top 1/4 or higher(higher gpa for RD opposed to ED)
Different at our private, UVA is a much easier admit than Tufts and we are oos for UVA. Emory is the easiest admit of the three and the kids that go there are not in top twenty percent of class (ED1 applicants). Tufts and Wash U admits are in T20 percent of class.
