What are your major motivations for replying on dcum posts? I get why folks ask questions, but why do you respond? I'm on here most days, but when on top of my game, I'm actually not. I think for me it's a combination of wanting to feel connected somehow, wanting validation by someone else liking my comment, or wanting to buck someone up. Sometimes when I'm in a bad mood, I am snarky. I also like the idea that while we likely don't agree politically, we can help each find casual summer dresses. Why do you dcum?
Internet forums are like participating in an ongoing interactive anthropological study in your downtime.
I agree. I have experience in market research plus I am Gen-X and the demos here are similar to or upmarket of mine. I don't live in DMV anymore. I stopped in last fall while helping my senior manage the college applications process because there are few high-powered parents in our school district and few people apply to selective schools. My kid will be attending school with some of your DMV kids this fall. I'm curious how high the bar is going to be for him.
