Are there families who only do short course and long course season with their year round teams, and skip summer swim team season? We've always done both....but we are currently frustrated with the disorganized summer team board, summer team drama, bad coaches, or rotating door of new coaches. And it is so much volunteering and such a commitment. It is starting to feel like a burden instead of fun. Anyone else feel like this? We used to love summer team. Parents more frustrated than the kids. Yes, its about the kids- but the parents have to make this such a priority.
I haven't read all the responses to this post but maybe you should consider sitting on the "disorganized summer team board" instead of complaining about it. It takes a lot of work to manage the team and usually only a few are involved in this year round commitment. Have you offered to help beyond just your volunteer hours at the meets?
The amount of work done by swim team board members is hit or miss. I’ve seen some who are absolute rock stars and crush it and do everything and anything. I’ve seen a good majority just try and meddle to their kids benefit. And a decent chunk like to wear a polo and a clipboard to get out of actually having to time or volunteer and do very little work.
