I don’t understand what you being poor in your 20s has to do with the refugees wishing for nice things. 
These people have already experienced enough trauma, maybe an espresso machine would brighten their day.

My BN has had some specific requests for Ukrainian, Persian, and Afghan families - but it was always explained by the person asking on their behalf. Like “this type of electric kettle because they make tea multiple times a day” or something similar. [/quote]
