I have a kid in that class and an 8th grader that didn't get an interview this year. As much as I'm upset about kid's not getting an interview (lack of transparency, unintended consequences, and not actually moving towards purported goals so at least it feels like there was a bigger upside, etc), I don't think the quality of the students is going to tank. The kids coming in have a GPA of at least 3.7. And based on the teacher recs, they're all great kids - who perhaps have even more of the 'soft' skills that will serve them well in college admissions and life in general than prior grades who were based primarily on test or GPA as the 'cut' factor.
