Why is it sad that other people.have different preferences? I am not a beach person but I understand and respect that others are. I have actually been surprised as an adult by how much I have enjoyed being in mountains. Different strokes, etc[/quote]

See, I don't think they "have different preferences." I think they were not properly taught how to enjoy a beach vacation and don't have the fundamental core memories with family at the beach as a small child. [/quote]

I have fundamental core memories of our yearly beach week in my childhood. There are parts I love (boardwalk nights, crabs/seafood, amusement parks, etc.). I am also fine with laying out for hours in the sun. Not boring to me. I HATE sand. Maybe it’s a sensory aversion. I’m also just not excited about wearing a bathing suit on display in front of others. We are not all a size 2.

I am also am now the parent and I am now the one needing to pack all the sandwiches and drinks, schlep all the gear to/from the condo or house to the beach, rinse all the sand, apply sunscreen on wiggly kids and supervise impulsive children in and near the ocean. Not relaxing and a lot of work. Was much more fun when I was the kid!

So no, I’m not a beach person. But the beaches near here are particularly unpleasant. In other places, there are chairs and umbrellas set up, people bringing you cold drinks and snacks, shorter sand distance to walk, etc. I don’t mind crowds but there’s also that.

But it’s fine if you love the beach. You spend your week at Sea Colony. I’ll be in Europe somewhere, fully clothed. It’s really fine! [/quote]
