She "stole" the guy from the hourglass hottie and is bragging about it.

Taylor Swift You Belong With Me is a pick me,  Pussycat dolls "doncha wish your girlfriend was a freak like me", Avril Lavigne Sk8er boi and I dont like your girlfriend, Alanis Morisette You Otta Know.

If you read the lyrics you can get a sense of the comparison/putting down that makes someone a pick me. [/quote]

Nothing in those lyrics indicate that Taylor is 'not like other girls'.  She's just not like the girl her love interest is with right now.  Taylor compares/contrasts herself only with that girl but isn't judging her - only that she is the opposite of that girl and is a better fit for their shared love interest.

I've experienced this except the other way around.  My DH (married 25+ years) is not someone who I would have dated in college.  I would have partied with him but nothing more because he wasn't what I thought 'my type' was like. Turns out, 'my type' didn't get my humor, didn't like my music, was more high maintenance than I was (but they definitely looked good!), and just wasn't as easy to be with as my DH - very similar to Taylor's song. It took me a while to see that a guy like my DH was really what I was looking for. Definitely not a 'pick me' situation.[/quote]

No, sorry, you're wrong. "She wears short skirts, I wear t-shirts; She wears high heels, I wear sneakers; I'm listening to the kind of music she doesn't like" is the epitome of Pick Me attitude. You don't get it and that's okay.[/quote]

DP and agree with this. Also if you've ever seen the video for this song, it's extra obvious that it's about tearing down the other girl (who, twist, is also played by Taylor in the video, in a brunette wig) because she is portrayed as this vapid, selfish, attention-seeking girl who is just using the guy, complete with evil glances over her shoulder to show you she's in on it. Not like the "good" Taylor who is wholesome and goofy, wears glasses, does her homework, and doesn't care about all that shallow BS the "bad" Taylor does.

And then the end of the video is literally the guy picking "good" Taylor over the "bad" Taylor, serving as wish fulfillment for pick-me girls everywhere. This goes straight to the psychology of pick-me girls, who don't just want to get the guy -- they want the guy to validate them by choosing them OVER some other woman who the pick-me girl has identified as her nemesis. It's about a man saying, "Actually, I don't even like girls like *that* -- you're better than she is." External validation, specifically from men, to help them get over childish competitions they've created in their own heads with other women in their lives.[/quote]
