But I suspect Biden will want to debate. Looking at the polls, Biden is losing very badly. Particularly when the polls include third parties - Kennedy etc. That's 15-20 points right there going to third parties. And that hurts Biden much more than Trump.

Biden really needs to demonstrate that he is still functional. That's reality. People get old. And no one in America wants a senile 86 year old as president. It's everyone's biggest concern with Biden. And Kamala Harris has demonstrated that she is very mediocre. It's not like there's a VP waiting in the wings that everyone feels comfortable with.

It was a terrible mistake for Biden to run. He won in 2020 because it was understood he would be a one term caretaker president after the chaos of Trump. But somehow he seems to think he is FDR - which, again, reflects the fact that he has lost the plot.

So he needs to get up there for two hours and demonstrate that he has what it takes.

Trump and his followers are batsh*t insane. Trump on a stage being his usual obnoxious, idiotic self doesn't change any votes though. Everyone knows who Trump is. And roughly a third of America will follow him anywhere.

But that's all it's going to take in this election. He benefits if Biden stumbles and flails and has his senior moments. It's going to be a low turnout election. Third parties are going to be a significant factor. Trump can be his usual belligerent nutcase self. It won't change any votes. But Biden having a brain melt on stage? That changes votes. Maybe it depresses the vote. Maybe people vote for third party because they can't vote for an old man who is clearly unwell.

In any event, both Biden and Trump have good reasons to do debates. [/quote]
