I was told of a study done by a college student where he placed fake turtles on a road and recorded what drivers would do.  Most elected to deliberately crush the turtles.  Horrible.  
We live rural near a lot of water and DH will always stop the car and move any turtle to the side of the road it was moving to.  He’s done this with baby painted turtles no more the size of fifty cent piece (yes, he has excellent eyes) and two and a half foot long snapping turtles and everything in between.[/quote]

My dad used to do this, too - he would stop on busy roads, and literally stop traffic for the turtle, then move the turtle safely.  I think it speaks volumes about a person's heart, if they are willing to do such a thing. [/quote]

Yep. I try to save box turtles when seen  in the road too.
I learned it from my mom who used to save & let me play with it for a few hours before us returning it "home" back in woods.[/quote]
