I actually think there's a lot of offering in the States I have to say - and I've been to Bora Bora, W Europe, Asia, etc.  I think our national parks are amazing out west.  More west coast resorts that are based around them are more interesting than the E coast ones.  I think it's less the country and more specific places that you can tap into that community to enjoy beats going to a famous destination.  Our experience have really been highlighted by our accommodations and the people who we meet where we are based in if that makes sense?  I tell you as someone who has done a lot of major cities - they are all similar in characteristics and offerings - museums, etc.  It's specific cultural experiences you are able to find that makes that destination truly unique.
