I’ve recommitted to my 2023 goals of achieving a healthy BMI through increased movement and mindful eating. I lost 35 lbs last year and got within 5 lbs of my goal, but I pretty much lost all steam by 4Q and regained a few pounds over the holidays. I feel encouraged that my body has done a better job self-correcting- I really feel much better when I follow my plan. My plan is simple- 1500 avg cals/day, weighted to give me more on high effort days (usually weekends), with walking or some other relatively low intensity workout 5-6 days per week. As I get back on track I’d like to ramp up the activity and add more strength training in 2024. My diet is varied, I shoot for 30% protein daily, and nothing is off limits except maybe fried food because it makes me feel like garbage. I don’t do well when I declare whole groups of food off limits. My calorie goals combined with how hungry I usually am naturally restrict the amount of alcohol I drink and sweets that I eat by forcing me to make better choices to feel full. I’ll still be pretty flabby at goal so I’m guessing I may have to get more stringent with my diet once I get there, but when I work this plan it works for me so back on it. I’m already down 3 lbs of holiday bloat just this week alone.
