I have my jewelry custom made by a local jeweler. Because I’m not paying for a blue box or a red box, I’m getting beautiful, significant pieces for far less than what you are paying for the jewelry equivalent of a Cheesecake Factory meal.
yeah this is a better way to be for sure lol
I get what you are saying, but Cartier and Tiffany are hardly the jewelry equivalent of The Cheesecake Factory.
They cater to the masses. The good Cartier and Tiffany jewelry is not what’s on the first floor, if you know what I mean. If you are paying those prices for .925 silver, you are insane.
Well not insane, just ignorant. But you make a good point. The smartest thing Tiffany ever did was get into the business of selling 1 carat (and even smaller) diamond engagement rings. In order to survive, they needed a much, much broader customer base -- and so they hit MC and LMC folks who would (I think stupidly) pay the premium just to have the ring come in the blue box. The "masses" as you say could then afford being able to buy something at Tiffany and Tiffany could make huge amounts of money with all of the customers who could suddenly afford a piece from there. All of that silver heart-tag bracelet stuff followed, to much success for Tiffany, because they figured out that the "masses" wanted everyone else to know they were wearing Tiffany (I have nothing against it -- I have one of those bracelets someone gave me years ago and I loved it but haven't worn it in like 20 yrs, and I have an olive leaf ring in the silver that I like as well). They've played up to the MC label-obsessed folks brilliantly. That said, it is nice jewelry, it's just overpriced for what it is and therefore aimed at folks who aren't knowledgable about jewelry quality and price, and love labels (which, yeah, yuck, but lots of people do).
