The question is whether any candidate will be bold enough to make that message the focus of their campaign. Candidates like Blair seemed to be afraid to talk about crime. I think the fear was that a "tough on crime" message would alienate MoCo voters.

Also, the recent NoVA elections raise doubts about how much voters care about crime as a campaign issue. Just look up all the candidates who aired endless ads about how their opponent was weak on crime; most didn't win. And NoVA has a huge crime problem also. I wish more people would vote based on this issue, but it just doesn't seem to be happening.[/quote]

I just don’t understand why we are so afraid of speaking up against crime. People who live in these high crime areas deserve better, and I wish they would vote for a candidate who would speak up and step up for them.
