The admissions rate is very high, but from what I’ve researched, it is a very well thought of school. Kid is an outdoorsy type so looking at this as well as Vermont and Colorado schools.
East Coasters generally don't know the U so you are bound to get some interesting takes on this listserve. My non-LDS (non-anything) kid loves it. Outdoorsy kids LOVE the U - hiking, climbing, and skiiing/snowboarding after class every day is living the dream. There are not a ton of LDS - and the hard-core go to BYU. It would be easy to find like-minded students as an outdoorsy kid - I would definitely recommend visiting because environs alone will take your breath away. It also has a great program where OOS students can get residency by sophomore year - and they actually help you navigate that path - so you are paying in-state tuition by sophomore year - making it cheaper than UVA or UMD for the last three years. Summer semester is also always instate. They have a ton of money coming in - building beautiful new dorms and pumping money into their business and STEM programs. It used to be a full-on commuter school, but they've been actively trying to shed that for the last few years - and lots of West Coasters (California especially) are there now.
