Pretty interesting exchange on Twitter with Goulet recently. He criticized Elissa Silverman for defunding the police, which she responded by calling it lies, and a community note was placed saying it wasn’t true. Goulet responded by showing where Silverman explicitly said she supported defunding the police and voted for it: https://twitter.com/EJGoulet/status/1734554512017203407 What’s interesting is that Silverman’s defending herself by saying that she was bullied by activists: https://twitter.com/tweetelissa/status/1734579518734528995 This is true, and when she initially said she supported defund the police she asked for BLM to stand against antisemitism, because she had been attacked by some members for being Jewish: https://washingtoncitypaper.com/article/304339/elissa-silverman-walks-back-transactional-support-for-black-lives-matter-dcs-call-to-defund-the-police/ Of course, activists across the city denounced her for saying BLM should also be against antisemitism, so she walked it back and apologized. This is a good demonstration of how spineless progressive legislators are. Silverman’s right that she was harshly bullied, and she was right to call out the antisemitism in BLM. People across the city were bullied by BLM activists. Mobs of them would go and harass white people who were out for dinner: https://www.washingtonian.com/2020/08/25/video-of-a-crowd-shouting-at-dc-diner-went-viral-citizen-journalist-chuck-modiano-joined-in/ And we’ve been seen more and more evidence of their antisemitism. As an At-Large Councilmember, Silverman was in a position to actually do something about a group that was bullying and harassing people across the city. Instead, she enabled them. And that’s the biggest problem with a lot of these progressive legislators - whether or not they’re individually intelligent, at the end of the day they’re going to kowtow to the crazy activists, no matter what the demands are. They might know the activists are crazy bullies, they might know the demands will wreck the city, but as soon as the activists start screaming, the progressives immediately fold and do whatever they want.
