Or maybe it is that not everyone buys into the hype/propaganda about the AR-15.  First the name, the AR does not stand for assault rifle but rather for Armalite the company that first made the rifle.  Second, the typical deer hunting rifle, a .308 Winchester, has a greater ballistic capability.   Third these hunting rifles can easily be equipped with 20 round magazines, yes the bolt action design of the rifle slows firing speed but it is still a very effective weapon.  Do you plan to take away everyone’s hunting rifle as well. I

Don’t get me wrong mass shootings are horrific and terrible events, but the AR-15 that everyone wants to get rid of has been around since the 1950’s, a good 40 years before we began to see mass shootings at schools and other venues.

Want to stop mass shootings, improve mental health screenings and treatment.  Get people with mental illness into treatment and where necessary confinement.  That is how you will stop mass shootings.

People with mental illness will always find a way to do harm.  In countries with restricted access to guns they do it by driving vehicles into pedestrian only spaces.

Please don’t try to impress us.  There are people who know more about weapons and their history than you.   It’s laughable you are bringing the Winchester here - you know damn well (I assume) that despite powerful ballistics from a single shot, it is not comparable to the damage caused by near 1000 rounds spent in the mere span of a few minutes at these massacres.   If you had educated yourself, you would know that the top weapon enthusiasts, including those at Smith&Wesson  had great reservations marketing their AR-15 style rifle to the public, especially in the manner they did.  Corporate greed won, and the rest is history.

Yes, I am sure there are people who know more about weapons than I do.  Also certain that no where near a thousand rounds were spent at these mass shootings.  Aware that same effect could have occurred with a bolt action rifle or a couple of 9mm handguns.  Why?  Although mentally ill most mass shooters pick places where they are the only on with the gun.  So they are in a position of power until a good guy with a gun shows up.  Whoops that happened at Uvalde but response was still poor.

Addressing Americas mental health issue is moving forward, enforcing existing gun laws is moving forward, looking people who commit gun crimes for a mandatory term of 25 years would be moving forward.

Developing smart guns that could only be used by the purchaser would move things forward.  No straw purchases or stolen gun use.  [/quote]
