Or maybe it is that not everyone buys into the hype/propaganda about the AR-15.  First the name, the AR does not stand for assault rifle but rather for Armalite the company that first made the rifle.  Second, the typical deer hunting rifle, a .308 Winchester, has a greater ballistic capability.   Third these hunting rifles can easily be equipped with 20 round magazines, yes the bolt action design of the rifle slows firing speed but it is still a very effective weapon. People with mental illness will always find a way to do harm.  In countries with restricted access to guns they do it by driving vehicles into pedestrian only spaces.

oh, please, the Rs don't even want ACA which covers mental health. They also didn't want people diagnosed with mental health illness to be put on a list that bans the purchase of guns.

You're either ignorant, dumb, or so in love with your gun that you can't think straight -- I guess all three.

And doctors have described the carnage that an AR15 can do to a body.
