The link to the case is here: https://montgomeryperspective.com/2023/10/26/sexual-discrimination-lawsuit-filed-against-mcps-beidleman/ Based on this, I don't know how MCPS will be able to get away with saying that they knew nothing.
Wow. A couple of takeaways, one serious and one frivolous. 1) It sounds like the victim did all the right things, including filing a report using the "correct" form, and if she can demonstrate that Walker breached protocol and common decency by disclosing her name, this feels like a pretty open-and-shut case of retaliation. 2) How old are the people in this story and why are they drinking to the point of blacking out with coworkers? Even if we leave aside the part of this story that's about bullying and sexual harassment, I've been an MCPS parent long enough to have heard and seen evidence of reams of stories about workplace affairs. Far more than I've ever seen in my own field. What is it about education that brings so much drama among the adult employees? Is it just the close quarters?
Parents have no idea how stressful teaching is. Other teachers are the only ones who get it.
+1,000
While I agree, this is literally every profession. In my years of work in technology, I've had many stresses. I've been responsible for life-critical systems: If systems go down, people literally lose their life within minutes. I've been asked to spend the night in my car to avoid being far away from a system in case it had issues--after traveling 10,000 miles to there. I've had years where I worked 80+ hours every week with no overtime pay and so that my hourly rate was actually below $20 per hour. I slept with phones and pagers in my hand because I got paged for problems every night and could never get more than a couple hours of uninterrupted sleep. I've heard similar complaints from my friends in the medical professions. I'm not saying I'd rather be a teacher. In fact, I would make a terrible teacher, since that just isn't my forte. We have a systemic problem in many industries.
