We have the Wrangler 4xe. I absolutely love it but there is no doubt that the handling is quite different from our other SUV--it's just not as tight and I could imagine an inexperienced driver would be more prone to swerve out of their lane. We got the full safety package and the weight of the battery makes this model less likely to roll. In any case, I'm a huge fan but I also worked a long time to buy a fun car to drive and I'd prefer if my kids did too.
It's funny as mine is much tighter than my old SUV. The turning is far sharper. It also makes a difference if you have a sport, sahara or rubicon or lifted. A rubicon or lifted is going to be very different from a sport. If I were buying for a kid, I'd buy a sport and not lift it. And, we got all the safety features too but I had to custom order it. We considered the 4xe but we don't drive enough for the gas/cost of the wrangler to make a huge difference.
