Your last point is why I dread the end of October. I get tons of last-minute demands from students and parents: proofread these supplemental essays, write a last-minute recommendation letter, brainstorm the common app essay, and on and on.

I now say NO to all of these demands. I will no longer be chained to my laptop the last week of October doing last-minute work for college-bound seniors who procrastinated on their common apps. I made this decision last year after a student was livid I went trick or treating with my child on 10/31, so I didn’t see the common app essay he wanted proofread for submission on 11/1. I got a lot of grief for that.

So I have already told my students I’m now off limits. If you wanted my help, it had to be done earlier. [/quote]
