I actually hated Yale. My gut told me to choose a different peer school, but I convinced myself Yale was “better”. It wasn’t the best fit and I still regret it but had and still have too much pride to admit it (except on an anonymous forum). I encouraged my kids to look at Yale but they weren’t very interested. They happily ended up at different T5 schools.
What about Yale did you hate? And where do you think you could have liked better?
The campus is not nearly as nice as other peer schools and town is undesirable -although there have been some nice improvements since my time (Broadway area). Never felt safe walking by myself after dark and safety concerns are still very real. The residential college system is marketed as a selling point for Yale, but there are definite cons and now that I’ve seen how it is at other top peer colleges (none is “perfect”) I don’t view it as a positive factor - neutral at best. There were other “small” factors and I think when you put them all together it just really wasn’t the best “fit”. I should’ve chosen Princeton.
