OMG you really are neurotic. Your odds of getting into your first two choices are high if they are not out of bounds Blair. I think your odds of your child getting into at least one of the magnets is high as well. As people have repeatedly told you the odds of getting into Blair with the lottery are really really low. It doesn't mean your chances are zero though so only you know your back up position and how much you want to gamble. FWIW, I don't think Blair is the ideal school for everyone. It's huge and can feel impersonal and competitive as a result. Your child could be the star of the math team at Einstein but might not even make the math team at Blair. I don't think this applies to your kid OP but it's a decent example. We know of at least two families that turned down Blair for Wheaton PLTW/Bioengineering. Those are smaller programs so the kids are socially closer and it's less cut throat than in a larger program.
I don't think Blair is the ideal school for everyone. I've already said that I think my older kid is better matched at Einstein. I don't think that asking questions about high schools when you are forced to make a choice and are brand new to the area makes someone neurotic.
OP has been asking the same question over and over again. It was her original question but then she kept repeating. It's weird.
Not OP, but that's because people keep focusing on a variety of other questions around the Blair magnet and the child's math level. The truth is that no one can answer OP's question because the lottery shifts from year to year. It is very unlikely that her child will get their absolute last DCC choice, but given construction at Northwood I would advse that OP not "waste" a DCC lottery slot on Blair. I suspect OP's child will get a magnet spot, either Blair or Wheaton. However, as a backup plan, I would advise her to rank them: Wheaton, Einstein, Northwood, Blair, Kennedy. With two STEM magnets in-house and a "whole school" focus on engineering, Wheaton is probably an overall better backup plan and fewer people choose it in the DCC lottery, partially due to geography.
They should rank Blair first, then Wheaton, then Einstein, Northwood then Kennedy. Most likely they’d get into Wheaton and if home school is Einstein, then they’d get into that. Northwood would be a lot of transportation issues. Also, if you plan to drive, be prepared with multiple kids. Mcps does not offer bus service for two miles and under.
I do not plan to drive, and my kids would much rather run/walk/bike to school than take the bus. Blair, Einstein, or Northwood where it is now are all easy from my house, right around two miles. I think for a STEM kid who wants to be an engineer, Wheaton is probably worth the hassle of the bus. I thought you only got home school preference if you ranked it first or second.
