Does FPYC have a good program on the boys' side? Or is BRYC better?
Yes to both though "good" is coach dependent. BRYC has more teams per age group so your kid may have a better chance to make a team, depending on the number of boys who show up for tryouts. BRYC also has more division 1 teams for more skilled players. Many FPYC teams play in divisions 2 and 3. BUT... the best option is for your son to tryout within your home zip code as first priority. If he tries out for a team not in your home zip code, the coach must petition for a zip code exception if he really wants your son. teams only allowed 2 zip code exceptions. Keep in mind, coaches probably recruited during summer and already offered zip code exceptions to other kids because both FPYC and BRYC sponsor travel teams to play in summer leagues, namely Fairfax Stars league. My son has played for FPYC in summer because zip codes don't matter when playing in non-FCYBL leagues. Many of his teammates also did not reside in FPYC home zip codes. On my son's team, I am pretty certain the coaches already offered their 2 zip code exceptions to one of their favorite "big" summer players.
