I live around the same block as the Brandywine and Saratoga. We moved out of our last apt. building (the infamous Sedgwick Gardens) because the voucher recipients had started filling the majority of the units and it was too unsafe to live there anymore, especially with a baby on the way. We specifically chose to move north up Connecticut to try to avoid another building being overrun with voucher recipients. I fear we may need to move again if this continues to get worse.
Rentals and condo buildings with rentals are all struggling with this issue throughout the city. For example, 4600, a condo building, has had issues. Housing First is a HUD program so be cautious elsewhere, too. That a shooting happened on a Saturday afternoon in broad daylight on the same block as a playground is unacceptable. There has been a very visible uptick in drug dealing in the neighborhood in that area, and behind buildings. It brings crime and needs to be addressed. A temporary camera will relocate dealers slightly, for a short time, but is not a fix. Frumin's message on ND is not reassuring. I get his newsletter, hope he distributes a message more broadly and organizes a meeting as Cheh did when there was a shooting at Days Inn.
