I'm genuinely curious as to whether a person who's spent 2/3 of their life in jail, and seems to have been a total dirtbag, can be rehabilitated.
US jails do not seek to rehabilitate. European jails do.
US jails offer options for rehabilitation. Although I'm not keen on Leslie van Houton's release, she availed herself of educational opportunities and was apparently well-liked by the many female inmates she tutored. Earned an MA in Philosophy, might be able to get a community college teaching job based on that and her work with the inmates. Chambers did some work toward a BA and a paralegal certificate, but not clear if he actually finished anything. He comes across as very ADHDish in his interview, or maybe his brain is just scrambled by drugs and long stretches of solitary. Hard to see what he can do.
