Band-aid. I do actually still make my kids go to bed by 10 - they're not up until the middle of the night. They may not go to sleep right away, whatever, but we still have the good-night routine down at a normal time. And if they still want to lounge in bed until 10am? Fine. I'm not dragging them out of bed early just because their bus next week will arrive at 6:40. I love lazy mornings hanging out in bed with nothing to do - I don't get them often anymore, but I don't need to deprive my kids of them, especially on the last week of summer! It's been a busy couple of months, this week is actually the most down-time they've had.
This. We do band aid too. They can stay up as late as they want before school starts and wake up whenever they want. When school starts they're up by 6:45/7 to be out the door by 7:30. Sure the first few weeks of school they may go to bed super early. That's fine. My kids have been back in school for a few weeks and the adjustment has been fine-kid still at home is in 8th grade.
