It is strange that FCPS has not come around. LCPS where we live has sent ES kids first (then MS, then HS) for 20+ years now. Start times are 7:30/8:30/9:30.[/quote]

My friend with a newly minted kindergartener in LCPS has a 6:15 AM bus! The school is literally 5 minutes away, so they're going to drive her, but I can imagine this not being an option for a lot of people, and then you have to suffer through 7 years of waking little kids up at 5:30 AM to make the bus (my neurologist's nurse has 3 kids, a first grader and two kinders, that have a 6:20 AM bus). From that perspective, I think it make sense that if you're going to torture anyone, it should be older kids that can understand a little better, and for 2 years. [/quote]

It's because a number of school districts are following the advice of the AAP, including our school district. But, a 6:15 bus time is horrendous! That sounds like a bus driver shortage issue. The school must be running double routes.

I know about the recommendations of the AAP, and agree with them. In practical terms though, it ends up being bad for little kids like the ones I posted above. Personally, I'm really glad FCPS had a late start for ES, since DD has never been an 'early to bed, early to rise' kid. At least now, she is old enough to have timed herself on all the things she needed to do in the morning to get ready, and set an alarm to wake up in time to do all those things. [/quote]
