Extra curricular are just fair-he has a long time part time job, one varsity sport, one academic club, 200+ service hours. in terms of engineering ec he doesn’t have any, partly because his school is not very strong in stem and doesn’t have robotics or anything like that and partly because he’s very social and hates a packed schedule (so he’s not seeking out non school based engineering activities.)

These are below average extracurriculars these days.

Tufts is a school that is much easier to get into ED1 so I wouldn’t waste that shot, but it isn’t a guaranteed acceptance.  He certainly has a decent chance.[/quote]

This is op and I do think this is true but on the other hand he’s a great, happy kid who has lots of non resume buffing interests (like old movies, just took up the piano) so it’s definitely a trade off I’m happy with even if it keeps him from highly selective schools. (Not criticizing kids with excellent ECs, just mean since that’s not his style it would have been really unpleasant for us both to push it.) [/quote]
