I was the only one in my Bethesda-area circle of friends to NOT lose power, and I believe it was because our tiny street is shaped like an S, so straight-line winds can't scream down the road and hit trees at full force. My friends all came to my house, with their kids, to recharge their devices and have some A/C. Some of them lost power for several days. I hope this derecho-like event will be considerably milder.[/quote]
