We visited CMU because DD is big into musical theater and we just wanted to see the school. Many, many Asians who seemed to be speaking their languages with the same. I think I read the Asian population is above 50 percent? Seemed very intense. Have heard that the liberal arts folks/musical theater/music people don't mingle much with the STEM folks..
The last portion is untrue based on a student I have at CMU. She and roommates are good friends with instrument players and attend performances. She speaks highly of everyone’s intelligence and abilities, regardless of their majors. It’s a collaborative and friendly atmosphere where everyone studies hard and yet make time to socialize with friends, participate in any of many extracurriculars, and take advantage of choices offered by the city of Pittsburgh. Planning and time management is key for all this.
