Why is it bad to retake classes to improve knowledge and/or grades?

My son had a terrible Spanish teacher and got a B and a C for the last semester. I don’t think he’s ready for the next level and I think retaking the class with someone else will help him learn what he missed and improve his GPA. [/quote]

You don’t think he’s ready or he doesn’t think he’s ready? Also, why not get a tutor or practice the material from this past year over the summer?  Why is taking the entire course over the summer needed for a student who achieved a B and a C.[/quote]

Ummm I’d like my son to go to a good college. Why do all the work you suggested and not get credit?

Many people succeed in life going to crappy schools but I’m not sure that’s the start I want him to have.

Parents who encourage mediocrity are free to do so. I assume many have lived their lives not working as hard as they could themselves so retaking a class is hard to imagine.

My son wants to go to a competitor school and is being recruited. He’s been advised by coaches  to focus on good grades and he is doing that.

I also think raising his grade now takes pressure off of him next year and hopefully he will speak Spanish better as well.
