Parisian here. I've long abandoned the idea that my compatriots are rational people when it comes to going down in the street, striking, protesting and looting over every perceived slight and imposition. When I was a high schooler in a Parisian lycee, it seemed crazy to me. And now in my 40s, it seems just as crazy. In the case of banlieues youths dying while trying to escape police, I'm very sorry they died. This is not the first one. I am against police shooting at traffic stops. I am for this policeman getting the full wack of the homicide laws (he won't, but at least he's been arrested). The north African immigrant poor suburbs have always been a problem, even when they've been modernized and fully supported by low cost or free social/medical services and low cost public transportation. The youth is disaffected, many don't have jobs, there are gang and drug problems, and they've been raised to clash with the police and destroy government buildings any time something bad happens to one of them. The police has been trained to respond in this way against the banlieues youths from force of habit of always being targeted by them. I don't know what the solution is, but it's sad that we can't seem to get out of this vicious cycle.
The solution is to send back anyone involved in anything unlawful and not to bring more people from clashing cultures
This! Same is happening here but I don’t think most people realize it yet.
No they don’t. Most Americans are raised to be so tolerant that they can’t see the plain truth right in front of them. It’s not always as straightforward as the culture of burning and looting by North African communities in Paris. It can be the story of the majority certain religion US city council that bans pride flags. It can be the story of the Silicon Valley companies where you hire one person of a certain descent and then before you know it the whole company is comprised of their compatriots and everyone else is pushed out or tokenized. It’s a certain style of management brought on by representatives of a certain culture, etc etc
