High school graduation ISN'T a big deal though. And anyway, I don't indicate my feelings through my clothes, except that I want to be comfortable. I speak or write my feelings.
In US society, high school graduation is absolutely considered a big deal by most people. As such, and because it is a ceremonial occasion, most people dress accordingly and do not wear jeans and sneakers. My kids would probably be embarrassed if their parents wore jeans while all of their classmates’ parents knew to step it up for the event.
Okay, well we'll have to agree to disagree about a high school graduation being considered a big deal. And I guess my kids are less uptight than yours, because they aren't embarrassed by me.
It’s funny you initially said you dress down for graduation because it’s not about you and then have made their graduation entirely about you in every other comment. I teach high school- the kids don’t think it’s the highest pinnacle of success they’ll ever reach, but yea graduation is a big deal for them. It’s the end of childhood and they know it. It’s the start of life on their own. Their k-12 journey had ended and it’s a huge shift in their world. They are aware of that and are excited about it even if you consistently say it’s a big fat nothing.
