Ugh, this sounds like a total nightmare. So how are we supposed to protect ourselves? Between this and the "ghost" tags, it's impossible to prove car + driver responsibility. [/quote]

It was actually amazing how non concerned anybody was. The MoCo police absolutely refused to investigate the drivers license and my insurance company just said, "this happens all the time" and paid the claim.

I ended up having to pay the deductible and apparently maybe down the road once there is some sort of proof that the motorist was uninsured, I'll get my deductible refunded to me.[/quote]

I was stopped at a light. Had he had insurance, my insurance would not have had to pay a penny. Instead it did and ultimately it will cost us all more money.

Do you think that no fault is "free" or a gift?
