First gen student here, graduated college about 20 years ago. B+/A- HS student, SAT was abysmal (550+ verbal, 450 math). Applied to regional, small schools and ended up at 3rd choice for scholarship reasons. Zero regrets and I remain grateful for the experience to this day. FWIW, I am an attorney. I wouldn't change my ugrad experience for anything.
Sounds like it was a great school! I like opportunities to give love to places like these, so come back and share the school!
Assumption College in Worcester, MA! My younger brother, and both our wives, also went to this school. A hidden gem. Our sister (she's seven years younger so a more "recent" college graduate, ha ha) went to Providence College and had a fantastic 4 years as well.
My Dad used to have the vending machines at Assumption (now University) a long time ago. Agree people really seemed to like the school and got a very good undergraduate education. He got out of that business but I have fond memories of meeting and working with students who worked with him, going up there to shoot hoops, etc. I wanted to get away and did need to go at least a little distance from home, but the University does seem to have good core values.
I'm the PP who went to Assumption - that's a great story about your dad, thanks for sharing! I wish the small schools like AC (er... AU now) got more attention in the dmv. A ton of merit aid available at schools like this one!
NP just found this post searching for providence college - DD is applying to PC, AU, Villanova, Merrimack, and Stonehill. Any intel on the above? We have family friends at Assumption and Merrimack who love the schools but we aren't familiar with the others.
