I thought Emily Ratajkowski was the sex symbol of this generation?
Ah. You might be right. OP here, I was thinking movie stars, not models.
No she is not a sex symbol. She is a woman who other women admire, find attractive and think is the prefect woman. Sex symbol are archetype of the bombshell. They are first and foremost about sex appeal. Other women are threaten, envious, etc. If your DS brought home his new girlfriend Emily Ratajkowski you would be happy. If your DS brought home his new girlfriend Pamela Anderson not so much.
Hahah what? First of all, I don’t admire Emily Ratajkowski (I’m a woman). But do I think she has sex appeal? Absolutely. I wouldn’t be threatened by any woman my son brought home. What a weird way to frame this. And men definitely think Emily is hot. Not just attractive. Hot.
I actually do admire Emily Ratajkowski, as a woman. I have read some of her writing, including an essay she wrote on having some of the photos she had taken very early in her modeling career get used in weird and upsetting ways as her star rose. She is very thoughtful about art and feminism and has a unique perspective on both as someone whose image has been used to make art, often in ways that are exploitative and anti-feminist. She's kind of a fascinating person to me. But I also disagree with PP's definition of sex symbol. I think a sex symbol is anyone, man or woman, whose appearance gets used in media to represent a lustful ideal. Emily Ratajkowski has absolutely filled that role, as has Pam Anderson. I guess Ana de Armas is currently filling that role as well.
