If a student is enrolled in AP Gov instead of NSL Government, do they still have to take the MCAP test or does the AP exam count if they pass with at least a 3? I noticed that the AP exam is scheduled for May 1st at the same time as the MCAP Government test. Does my child have to take both tests?
Mine took the AP Gov exam as a freshman, and now as a sophomore their grad-progress form lists “requirement met—alternate exam taken.” So no, they don’t have to take the state exam if they take the AP. FWIW, I seem to remember kids were told they only had to take the AP exam, that no specific score was needed to meet the requirement. But you may want to check that this is still the case.
